I decided to catch up on some aromatherapy book reviews once again this week, so bring you another review of an aromatherapy book that I think is essential for your aromatherapy library if you are serious about studying aromatherapy! My own copy of this book is now tattered and torn but not only can you purchase it for new, there is now an updated version of it! The aromatherapy book in question this week is Aromatherapy for Health Professionals by Shirley and Len Price.
About Shirley and Len Price
Shirley and Len Price are British aromatherapists who have paved the way for the world of aromatherapy as we know it today. Shirley Price is the author of many other aromatherapy books, including Aromatherapy Workbook, which I reviewed a couple of months ago. Her husband Len Price has also written other aromatherapy books including Carrier Oils for Aromatherapy and Massage. If you want to know a little bit more about how the Prices got into aromatherapy, read this interview I did with their daughter, Penny Price, at the start of the year!
About Aromatherapy for Health Professionals
Whether you are a health professional or not, I would highly recommend this book if you are studying to become a certified aromatherapist (in particular, a clinical aromatherapist). The book covers the subject areas of:
- chemistry of essential oils
- how essential oils are used in aromatherapy practice
- use of aromatherapy in pregnancy and with the elderly
- aromatherapy practice worldwide (although the UK is covered more widely)
- select profiles of essential oils for health care practice (listed by plant botanical name).
Aromatherapy for Health Professionals also includes actual case studies carried out by practicing aromatherapists so you can see how essential oils are used in “real” life and not just in theory! There are also plenty of charts, tables and pictures for you to study and digest. This might not be the book to pick up initially if you are brand new to aromatherapy or if you are more focused on making your own skin care products – at first glance. However, I would recommend that if you want to understand fully the therapeutic properties of the essential oils that you use that you take the time to read this book – so that you know what you are doing and how to use essential oils for specific problems!
Aromatherapy for Health Professionals is available from Amazon for $52.49.
