Georgie’s Garden bookmark honors my sweet Georgie. He was my eight year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who passed over at just 8 years old from chronic inflammatory bowel disease. My grief for Georgie overflowed into a poem. This poem is now available for purchase in the form of a bookmark, together with photos of Georgie and featuring Harry’s nose from Georgie’s Garden. The poem inscribed on the back of the bookmark reads:
My heart is heavy now that you’re not here,
I so wish I could hold you near,
Just one more lick, just one more kiss,
Just one more wuffle, these things I miss.
Why did you have to leave me so?
The answer I really do not know.
You were the sweetest boy, the sweetest soul,
You were the one who made me whole.
I love you so, I love you more,
It hurts me to my deepest core.
Those beautiful eyes, my cutie pie,
I am just left with the question: Why?
No wagging tail, no wagging bum,
When from a trip and home I come,
The house is empty, the house is stark,
Not even one single bark.
I thought I saw you behind the tree,
But perhaps it was my eyes playing tricks on me,
I thought I saw you, I truly did,
But when I followed you, you ran and hid.
But these are all things about me,
I know I had to set you free,
Free from pain, and free to roam,
I know one day we’ll both come home.
